EU member states adopt Bratislava Forest Declaration

Representatives of European Union member states adopted the Bratislava Forest Declaration at an informal meeting on Friday, Slovak Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry spokesperson Vladimir Machalik said.

The Declaration underlines the importance and vital role of forests in meeting current challenges such as the transition to a bioeconomy, the Paris Climate Agreement and Energy Union.

“The signing of the Bratislava Declaration is an important success for Slovakia and for our Presidency of the EU Council, as it represents a new impetus for fulfilling the European Forest Strategy,” stressed Peter Kicko, general director of the forestry section at the ministry.

The EU Forest Strategy represents the basic strategy document of EU policy aimed at promoting sustainable forest management, which is among the priorities of the Slovak presidency.
